Tomorrow, we Filipinos contemplate the future. We vote–and by voting–change history.
All the major surveys point to a landslide victory of Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. Only the sudden onset of a political upheaval or a massive cheating operation stands between him and destiny.
Expectations run high. Noynoy’s tomorrowman will either be a super-villain for dashing hopes or a superman righting the wrongs of a generation. He stands on the cusp of a transition from the politics of his father’s generation to his own generation. How he manages the transition and stamps his own mark on the politics of his and future generations we shall soon see.
However, there is a long, possibly broken road ahead of him. He will come into his own with the past haunting him, critics hounding him, and enemies lying in ambush to get at him.
Daunting work indeed for somebody who didn’t even know he will have to run for presidency of his country less than a year ago. But then, who thought we would be voting for him?
