General Reyes is dead in an apparent suicide. The supreme court changes tune and Ombudsman Gutierrez is now impeachable. Corruption investigation goes on. Possible revamp in Cabinet and elsewhere in government. A bus get bombed. A hidden war goes on and gets more interesting.
Is this a war that’s getting messy? In a sense, yes. The immediate political agenda of the Aquino administration is to consolidate power, neutralize the old power, and start off its own governance program. To do this however it has to clear out all the obstacles and cobwebs of the past GMA administration–the latter having succeeded in brushing aside many constitutional and legal checks to establish a nine-year GMA regime.
The Aquino administration is successfully accomplishing its agenda while a desperation has set in among the GMA-aligned groups. The going has been slow and riddled with miscues and flashes of incompetence of a very raw neophyte.
However, things are starting to settle down. The depths of corruption are exposed to the world. Everybody waits for the unmasking of the masterminds. The “tuwid na daan” is turning to be the road to perdition for corruptors and their minions.
It is interesting to watch for developments in the coming weeks as the Aquino administration gets into its stride.
