As a long-time observer of the Philippine political scene, I have been asked time and again for my opinions on developing events in my country–from the media, from civil society organizations, sometimes from foreign embassies, and of course, my friends. Aside from this, my work as the executive director of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reform (IPER) requires me to be always updated on developing political events in the Philippines and internationally (particularly as they affect my country).
This blog therefore provides a convenient place for those who want answers to their questions regarding these developments. Of course, from a specific point of view–a personal one. This blog does not reflect any policy or stand of the Institute or of its Board of Trustees.
December 30, 2007: I have just made some changes in my blog presentation. I hope this made it easier to read.
February 14, 2008: I added a blogroll for approved links to bloggers or website owners who request the link. Happy Valentine’s day!
March 1, 2008: If you noticed, I have changed my background to that of the famed Manila Bay sunset.
April 7, 2008: I have changed my background to a Baguio scenery–appropriate, I think, for the summer.
May 5, 2008: The transition from the summer sunshine to the misty season of rains.
May 20, 2008: Tinagong Dagat in my hometown signals the onset of the rainy season. I am also experimenting with personal blog pages on certain topics.
June 26, 2008: If you noticed, I included some photos in the musing “Surviving Frank”. I’ll try to do so very sparingly. However, I have opened a personal Multiply site [moncasiple.multiply.com] for more personal postings. Other flood photos are posted there.
July 6, 2008: The photo is a ricefield turned sea during the height of typhoon Frank’s fury. Photo was taken in Pototan, Iloilo.
July 13, 2008: I have made some re-tuning of the sidebar–you can see for yourself the results.
July 16, 2008: More re-tuning. Added Tags–I noticed that there is interest in accessing my previous blog entries so this will make it easier. However, you have to bear with me–it seems WordPress does not make automatic Tag entries for previous posts. It will take some time by manual editing.
I also added a new category Philippine Development. It seems one cannot anymore clearly separate politics and development issues. In the Philippines, it seems that the government is becoming once again one big privatized corporation.
July 28, 2008
I’m sharing some of my favorite websites or blogs by adding them to the Blogroll. As I’ve said before, you may request a link if you want. The header scene is a view of Panay’s Madya-as mountain range from my native Lambunao.

Just can’t resist putting this–a Hubble space telescope photograph of a nursery of newly-born stars. in celebration of the upcoming servicing of the iconic telescope.

Another space view–of our very own Earth, the only one we’ve got. This is the famous “blue marble” photo.
October 28, 2008
The coming recession is slowly–but surely–coming into our national consciousness. How government will deal with it is crucial to our own survival. To reflect this point, I’m changing my header scene. This one is from my hometown, reputedly the hillsite of the Panay Ati’s seat of government in the days of King Marikudo and his descendants. This is situated in barrio Simsiman, Lambunao, Iloilo, incidentally, my grandfather’s home barrio. Credit to our town’s website.

Another earth-view–a hurricane viewed from space.
December 28, 2008
The deadly beauty of an iceberg that can sink a Titanic.
February 9, 2009
Beach view of the sunset in Boracay. A toast to the passing of an era in Philippine politics. You may also notice that I remove the password requirement on the Page “Left Prospects for 2010 Elections.” This is to widen its accessibility to others who may want to read it. Thanks to those for the suggestion.
March 28, 2009
Boracay in its glory.
June 4, 2009
A storm system viewed from space. Rainy, rainy season ahead–not necessarily literally.
September 15, 2009
The literal fog of an existing war in Korean peninsula’s Demilitarized Zone.
October 24, 2009
A view of the Madya-as mountain range in Panay, from my hometown.
February 19, 2010
A rain-drenched trip down the highway from Baguio.
March 3, 2010
The Mayon volcano yesterday–with all its dangerous glory in full sight. The 2010 elections, needless to say, has its own lethal attraction.
June 7, 2010
The view of a small valley in the heart of Lambunao.
March 2, 2011
Changed the format to the “Mistylook” theme. The photo is the view from Mt. Singit, one of the mountainpeaks in my hometown.
November 11, 2011
The new background photo is the view from the Mayon Rest House, a clear day.

I apologize for not publishing new material in this blog. However, those of you read my announcement about Parallaxis will understand. I have opened this new blog, courtesy of Yahoo! Philippines, last July 2012 and I have written on it at least once a week since then. I invite readers to look at it for immediate reactions to developing political events.
In the meantime, I have thought over the relationship between this blog and Parallaxis. Since this blog is my own and does not necessarily caters to specific audiences, I have decided to continue this one, albeit on a more deeper and analytical level. it will still respond to events but on a more measured manner. Looking forward to a more productive blogging in the future.

To my would-be commenters from the CPP-led mass organizations: I would have authorized your comments and debate with you on my blog. However, insults, ad hominem attacks, dogmatic assertions, and plain unthinking arguments cannot be given due course. These types of comment have no place in a reasoned and enlightened discourse–it is impossible to be productive, and only wastes my time and yours. Thank you. P.S. And don’t think I do not know anything on what I am speaking about–you should do your homework.
Keep on blogging sir Casiple.
Merry Christmas and a happy new year! 😀
Sir, will it be possible for our online magazine to be included in your blogroll? We have included your webblog in our online magazine as featured blog, and we’re wondering if this can be interlinked in your blogroll for easy access.
Hoping for your positive response.
Hi Mon,
What is your email address?

[…] Mon Casiple, executive director of the Institute for Political and Electoral Reform (IPER), says Arroyo is banking on the old tactics of stonewalling, and waiting for the heat of the issue to simmer down. “What will she say that will still be credible? Action from her, like resignation, prosecution of her people, is the one people will be waiting for,” he says. […]
Dear Sir,
Congratulations on a great blog — incisive and concise.

I would like to interview you-at a time most suitable to your schedule- regarding your insights on the platforms of these groups. thank you very much
galing nyu po,ang laki po ng naitulong mo this past election.
I just read your article ” Landmines”
As we speak, Gloria’s PP 1064, which makes Boracay property state-owned is sowing chaos, because many in (political) influence are using it to land-grab billions worth of prime property.
I hope Sen Aquino, as President, will reviews this, many Illongos voted for him to see finality on the issue.
As a landmine, this one is BIG, planted by both Gloria and the Supreme Court.
Thank you Mr. Casiple for once more saving the day.
Im just as happy as a clam, I finally found your blog site. Been watching you over and over again in tv. You have a very high trust ratings on me. Keep it up and goodluck to you. You are truly an original and an expert as a political analyst.

Hello. I’m requesting to feature one of your articles on P3.
P3, http://www.p-3.ph, is a crowd-sourced, progressive, online Philippine news magazine that features blogs with perspectives on modern Filipino culture, progress-minded, social responsibility, environmentalism, and tolerance. All articles are submitted by bloggers and freelance writers. The only prerequisite is that the blogger/writer belong to the industry in which she/he writes; e.g. OFW writes on OFW issues, artists write about artist news, etc.
I will provide all the necessary links and description of your blog.
Thanks.
It’s ok with me. Mon Casiple.
Mr. Capisle – I saw that you are scheduled to be at Lewis & Clark College in Portland Oregon on Sept 26, 2011. Interested in your coming to Portland Oregon, though a major conflict keeps me from going to the Monday evening event. (Lewis & CLark, by the way is my alma mater for my JD). There is a group of Filipinos here in Oregon and SW Washington that is very interested in Good Governance in the Philippines, and interested in connecting with you. Please email (or call me, telephone number passed on). Enrico Tadeo
Unfortunately, my schedule may not permit a meeting since we have a group schedule to adhere to. I’m only arrived in Portland this evening and will be leaving on the afternoon of the 27th for San Francisco onwards to Manila. I am staying at the Jupiter Hotel here in Portland. Let’s keep in touch through this e-mail or if you have a Facebook account, you can look me up.
